Moles

Description

There are 3 types of moles in Massachusetts, including the eastern, star-nosed, and hairy tailed mole. Moles are short with outwardly turned feet and black or gray fur that has a silky luster. They have tiny, hidden eyes and ear openings with a long snout. Their nests are usually deep in the ground under a large stone, tree, sidewalk, or road. Moles have a good sense of smell, touch, and hearing, but have poor vision. They are mostly active on damp cloudy days in the spring and fall. Moles eat earthworms, grubs, beetles, and insect larve. When they tunnel they can leave holes and bumped up dirt in your lawn causing damage. Moles are most active early in the morning and late evenings.

Preventative measures
